INDIAN COUNCIL FOR CULTURAL RELATIONS
Operates both nationally and internationally through the reciprocal development of studies in Indian and foreign universities; publications in English and other languages on different aspects of Indian culture; the exchange and presentation of cultural material with libraries and museums abroad; and the promotion of exchange visits of cultural delegations, scholars and artists. Organizes the azad memorial Lectures, international seminars, symposia and conferences; establishes chairs and centres of Indian studies abroad; look after the welfare of foreign students in India; complies select bibliographies and publishes books and journal in English, French Spanish and Arabic. Also administers the jawaharlal Nehru award for international understanding, instituted by the government of India in 1964. The council has regional offices in Bangalore, Mumbai, Chandigarh, Calcutta, Madras, and Varanassi, cultural centres in Suva (Fiji) Georgetown (Guyaha) and Paramaribo (Suiname), and a "cultural window in Bonn, federal republic of Germany.
