Aims:


Awards scholarships to foreign students tenable at African higher education institutions and to students from European countries for university vacation and language courses. Scholarships are also awarded to German students and research workers and are tenable in almost all countries of the world. Supports a programme of exchanges of university teachers for short-term teaching and research visits on a reciprocal basis. Short- term fellowships are awarded to foreign academics for study visits in Germany and a large number of study visits of groups of foreign academics and students to Germany are supported . Under the Artist-in-Berlin programme a number of internationally known foreign artists are invited to Berlin every year for a periods of six to 12 months. General questions of international academic and scientific relations, such as educational aid for less developed countries, are also dealt with. DAAD maintains branch offices in Cairo, London, Nairobi, New Delhi, New York, Paris, Rio de Janeiro and Tokyo.
