Aim:

The centre conducts its own research in crop improvement and supports that of collaborating institutions, principally in Latin America and also in Eastern Africa, the Middle East and Asia. The rice programme selected for irrigated systems; the bean programme has developed a network of research into different types of beans in Latin America, with scientist also active in Rwanda; the Cassava Programme organizes the development of cassava in Latin America and Asia. The centre genetic resources unit maintains germplasm banks for the development of new strains, and the seed unit assists in the production and distribution of basic seed to growers. CIAT also undertakes training for personal taking part in national research programme, holds conferences commodities.
